Fantastic Chicken Gumbo recipes that are easy and delicious



Chicken Gumbo recipes are the most popular in south Louisiana. And it's no wonder because poultry makes an awesome gumbo. Many cooks throughout Louisiana will use it as the main meat ingredient in gumbo and add other seafoods or vegetables to create different flavors and textures.

A perennial favorite is chicken and sausage gumbo. This combination will make a most excellent dish and it is easy to put together. Adding okra or file' will change the dish and provide a completely different look or flavor.

New Orleans chefs will usually have a chicken gumbo on the menu. And experienced restaurant operators will tell you that although seafood gumbos are popular, they serve more chicken gumbos to their diners.

When someone hears the term chicken gumbo they think only chicken in a dark rich liquid. But as experienced cooks in south Louisiana know there are many ingredients that can be added to change this state's most famous food. Like the addition of okra to add a different texture and flavor.

Some recipes call for andouille and shrimp to change up the dish. Still others will call for file' or oysters. One outstanding variety calls for greens and black eye peas as and adder to a chicken and sausage combination.
