A tailgate gumbo recipe that will make your party rock

Tailgate parties have become a fun activity for friends and family. This tailgate gumbo recipe is definitely one to make at your next ball game.

It is a chicken gumbo and is an easy recipe to make.

This recipe uses prepackaged ingredients from your grocer's frozen and refrigerator sections and a few seasonings you should already have at home in your spice cabinet.

It uses a dry roux that can be made in advance and taken with you. It stores well in a zip lock bag.

You may notice there is no salt in the ingredients list. This is because the sausage and chicken are high in sodium and provide all the salt needed for the entire pot. Of course if you want more salt you can add some and adjust to your tastes.

It truly is a wonderful recipe considering the speed and ease at which it can be prepared. And it is guaranteed to impress your tailgate party friends and family.

Tailgate Gumbo Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/4 cup dry roux

5 cups water

2 cups low sodium chicken broth

2-10 oz. packages of frozen onions and green pepper

1-22 oz. package of Tyson Grilled Chicken Breast Strips cut into bite size pieces

1 pound lean smoked sausage diced or sliced

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon Mrs Dash Original seasoning

1 Packet Herb OX Sodium Free Chicken Bouillon

Directions

Put water, chicken broth, frozen onion and green pepper along with the dry roux in a heavy pot. Bring to a boil stirring constantly until the dry roux is blended well. This will take a couple of minutes as the dry roux will want to float.

Add sausage, all seasonings and bouillon. Reduce heat and cook for 20 minutes stirring occasionally.

Add the chicken, stir and simmer for 40 minutes. Stir gently every 10 minutes.

Serve with rice, potato salad and french bread. Yummy on a cold day while tailgating and enjoying your pregame activities. Will make 8-10 servings.

For an even faster gumbo that tastes fantastic, try these gumbo mixes. All you do is add the seafood or meat.
